Growing up in North Carolina, my father and grandfather, grew tobacco… which meant getting the ground ready, setting, cutting, hanging and sorting once dried…

Now I understand that I have probably missed more than one step along the way however it has been more than 20 years (probably more like 30+) since my family raised tobacco. After all this time I can still remember all of the hard work that goes into raising tobacco.

A couple of years ago, I heard about a tobacco basket that was at this nearby consignment shop…

The picture is not of the best quality and the basket has definitely seen better days…however I know without a shadow of a doubt that each time I catch a glimpse of it, I think of my father and grandfather, whom I love and miss each and every day… so to me…the piece is absolutely perfect.

I went looking for a sofa…you know one of those things that sit in your living space (Living Room, Family Room, Den, etc.).  Before the sale, I was looking at the pictures online and saw a fairly contemporary sofa that I thought would be a good fit for my house. It wouldn’t show dirt (the dog just doesn’t understand he should wipe his paws prior to jumping on the furniture)… it would somewhat match the rest of my decor… and best of all I figured I could get it for a reasonable price…

Rigby lounging on the new sofa once we got it home yesterday… and for just $100 (for an almost brand new sleeper sofa) I am ecstatic…

However, I also came home with a ton of other stuff (i.e. junk)…

The Girl That…

I have been devouring everything I read from Goodwill Hoarding as of late. Not because I love the Goodwill as much as these ladies do…but because I’ve discovered I already have a few pieces of Pyrex in my cabinets.

I don’t know the age of these items, so far I have obtained them at estate sales… so I would assume these are older pieces.

For Parts…

For parts… that was what printed on my receipt at a local antique store when I purchased the Big Ben alarm clock shown below.

I understand that the glass is broken off the front of the clock and it probably no longer functions as an alarm clock. I wasn’t purchasing it to actually use though.

I purchased it for the nostalgia… I remember my grandmother winding and setting an alarm clock similar to this every night before going to bed. I never quite figured out how to actually use this type of clock and although it is far from perfect it will be proudly displayed in my bedroom as a nod to the past…

Although it doesn’t work and is far from perfect, it was totally worth the four dollar price tag.
